Several teachers at Spring Valley High School are being let go at the end of this school year. Some of these positions include the Drivers Education teacher, a health teacher, and a history teacher, although several more positions will be empty. These teachers will look for a new teaching job, will have to figure out how to stay financially afloat, and will have to find where they will teach, if they even can.

What does it take to be a teacher? Well, in West Virginia, to become a high school teacher in West Virginia, you must earn your professional certificate through the state. This requires earning a bachelor’s degree and completing a teacher preparation program. You must also pass the required Praxis exams and a background check.

Although, it may not be the best idea to get a teaching job again in West Virginia. It would most likely be better financially to move to another state to teach. According to the West Virginia Education Jobs Vacancies Employment, there are only 196 teaching jobs available in West Virginia. These 196 jobs even include cooking/Janitorial work. It really isn’t very many jobs if you think about how many schools are in West Virginia. 50 of these jobs very well may be janitorial jobs. Many teaching jobs require a specific field to be certified in. That narrows the 196 down a good bit. Hopefully you have good experience and a good résumé, because if you don’t the good jobs available will be snatched up in no time.

If you can’t find a job in West Virginia, then you may want to move states to find a better job that pays well. Although, it isn’t as great as it sounds. Many states may require different certification to teach. This will make it hard to earn money in a new community while trying to get proper certification to teach. If you have a husband or wife to support you, then you will have to move them and possibly children and/or pets as well. This could very well be a major conflict with your significant other, and/or children.

Deciding to file for unemployment while looking for a job may be a good idea for teachers. The rules for gaining financial aid from the government involve how you were separated from your work, your ability to work, your availability to work, your continued looking for work, and your willingness to accept a job for which you are reasonably qualified, according to https://unemploymentclaims.org.

Unemployment Compensation (UC) is an insurance program designed to provide West Virginia unemployment insurance coverage to eligible persons who are temporarily unemployed through no fault of their own.
