The National Basketball Association, better known as the NBA, holds a weekend long event featuring the slam dunk contest, three-point shooting contest, skills challenge, and an All-Star game every season in the middle of the season. The weekend consists of the best basketball players in the world such as Lebron James and Stephen Curry. Each year, the fans vote for the starting lineups for the East and West teams which are determined by which conference the players are in. The players at each position receiving the most votes will start for the conference of their current team. The other seven players are decided by coaches and managers and people associated with the league. Lebron James received the most all-star votes, as usual, with Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Kevin Durant also getting millions of votes.

The starters for the East team were Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, DeMar Derozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jimmy Butler. The West starters consisted of James Harden, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and Anthony Davis. The West ended up winning the game with a score of 192-182. Anthony Davis was named the game MVP with his 52 points, which is a new all-star record for points. The game also broke the record for the amount of points scored in an all-star game, beating last years previous record. The coach of the East was Brad Stevens and the coach of the West was Steve Kerr. The Warriors had four all-stars in the game which were Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.

The three point contest is always looked forward to by all fans on All-Star Weekend. The contestants this year were Klay Thompson, Eric Gordon, C.J. McCollum, Kemba Walker, Nick Young, Kyrie Irving, Wesley Matthews, and Kyle Lowry. The finalists were Kyrie Irving and Eric Gordon, who tied in the first final round, and had to go to overtime. Kyrie scored 18 on his final turn, but it was just short of Eric Gordon’s 22.

The skills challenge also is an awaited event in this weekend where players dribble, pass, and shoot to race to the finish. The finalists were Kristaps Porzingis and Gordon Heyward. It was a dramatic finish with Porzingis shooting the ball just before Heyward and sinking the winning shot just in time.

The dunk contest is many fans favorite event where the league’s best dunkers square off against each other and try to have the best dunk. The contestants were Aaron Gordon, Glenn Robinson III, Derrick Jones, and DeAndre Jordan. Jones and Robinson III were the finalists, but Glenn Robinson III could not be topped after dunking the ball over his head backwards.
